It has been a little more than two months since national automotive brand Proton launched the updated 2024 PROTON X50 and despite some initial scepticism from certain quarters, the model has proven its worth once again. The company recently announced that in July, during its first full month of sales, the B-segment premium SUV achieved a remarkable sales figure of 2,585 units. This was its best performance in 2024, vaulting the model back to the head of its class and solidifying its status as Malaysia’s favourite compact SUV.
Given its dominance of the domestic SUV market since its launch, the rebound may not come as a surprise to many, but few are aware that since its launch at the height of the pandemic on 27 October 2020, nearly 120,000 units of the PROTON X50 have been sold, making it the fastest selling SUV in Malaysian automotive history. Despite stiff competition from newer rivals launched by Japanese and Chinese brands, the model secured a 10.3% market share in the SUV segment from January to June 2024, easily outpacing other vehicles in the same market segment and highlighting the trust customers place in Proton's offerings.
Listening to customer feedback to offer enhanced features
A significant update for the 2024 PROTON X50 has been the improvements made to reducing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels, enhancing overall driving comfort. Despite being visually similar to its predecessor, the better refinement is easily noticeable and much appreciated by drivers who are moving up to the vehicle from smaller B-segment family sedans.
The infotainment system has also been upgraded with a 10.3-inch display now standard across the range and new hardware installed to improve boot-up and loading times, further complemented by telematics via the Proton Link app. After listening to customer feedback, the 360-degree camera system was also upgraded, now featuring a ‘3D Live Feed’ view to provide better manoeuvring assistance, while the Flagship and Premium variants come standard with a powered tailgate, which was previously an optional feature.
Appealing to a diverse customer base
Given its strong sales performance, it comes as no surprise to discover the Proton 2024 PROTON X50 has resonated with a diverse demographic, appealing equally to both male and female buyers. Over 60% of customers are aged between 26 and 50 years, indicating its broad appeal to both young professionals and those with families. Early buyer feedback indicates they are of the opinion the design perfectly fits their needs, being the right size either for a couple with young children or single individuals living an active lifestyle.
